Is there anybody out there who is running Ework 6.6.4 on a box which is running Windows 2003 and IIS v6? I would be very interested to know if you are.

Cheers

I'm pretty certain we are at at least one site, possibly two. Are you having specific difficulties or just considering upgrading?

Yep, isn't that the only supported environment these days?

Well, we have upgraded to Ework 6.6.4 recently and have had lots of problems with it crashing intermittently. Our development system is running 6.6.4 fine but that system is running Windows 200 and IIS5. I was wondering if anyone had experienced any compatibility issues with Ework 6.6.4 and Windows 2003 and IIS6 both in terms of installation and day-to-day running.

Currently we are having our live box rebuilt after we unsuccessfully tried to uninstall Ework. In essence, we are starting again.

We have had problems, but in my opinion they are caused by running a 6.5 and a 6.6 engine against the same database. Metastorm have not been able to tell me if this is supported. We have now completed the required changes to accomodate 6.6 changes in behaviour, and it seems OK (so far).

The other system moved straght from 5.1.1 to 6.6.4 and no problems as yet. It has about 100 users using it all day, and it's all going fine I believe.

I'm running 6.6.4 on two production 2003 servers with IIS 6 and never had a system crash yet.  I'm also running the same version on 2 additional 2003 development servers, 3 XP SP2 development servers and 2 2000 development/production servers.  The only problems I've ever had that caused any engine or server issues were related to syntax errors in the procedures themselves.  For instance, one procedure had an error in a variable assignment like

Quote:
%Text1="Hello World"
(note the colon character is missing).  This was actually crashing the engine without any errors being logged anywhere, but once the issue was detected the errors went away.

Are your problems while running that it happens to stop working, or while attempting to restart the engine??

I have seen this at a few customers in that same configuration you mention. Check the Knowledge Base at Metastorm.com

Issue

  • When installed on Windows Server 2003, the Engine service fails to restart and generates the following error message:

Could not start the e-Work Engine service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
