A while back, we got flagged by the security team because Metastorm stores the Oracle password in the registry. Someone with system access would be able to read the value and log into the database. We notice that we cannot encrypt the password field. We could set the permission to be hidden from everyone except for the Metastorm resource account, but then someone with system right would still be able to alter the permission to view it.

Our security team recently sent us a document form Metatorm detailing the use of IWA for Metastorm to connect to Oracle using Windows Authentication. I am suspecting that the document was for Metastorm 9. I don't think Metastorm 7 support any sort of registry encryption or windows authentication with Oracle?

I am fairly certain you can use windows authentication to the database with version 7.

Thanks Jerome,

I finally got in contact with Opentext and they verify that it is possible to have a windows authenticated Oracle database. The tech indicated that he had not encountered the setup himself but have heard of customer with the same setup.

The tech also suggested that we can move the password from the registry to the DSN and be able to avoid the issue with the password stored in the registry, but security indicated that this is not allowed either, since storing the password in DSN would have the same issue as the registry.
