Changing the Number of Rows Displayed Per Page

Last edited: 07 Jul 2005

The information in this article applies to product: e-Work 6.x

Issue

  • How can the default number of rows per page in a browser be changed, and how can this be overridden by the user?

Resolution

  • During the installation of the e-Work web extensions, an "e-Work Web Browser Settings" screen is displayed that allows the "Rows displayed per page" to be changed from the default value of 20. This setting applies to all To Do, Watch, administrative, and blank forms lists, as well as read-only grids.
  • A user can override this value for their own browser by accessing the administrative form "Browser Settings," provided it has been made available to them. This local setting is stored in a cookie on the user's machine and will take effect as soon as the administrative form is submitted.
  • To change the server default after installation, modify the value of "this.RowsPerPage" in the following file located on the server running the web extensions:
    <drive>:\Program Files\Metastorm e-Work\Web6\eweb\ie\jscripts\eUserOptions.js
Neither the e-Work Engine nor IIS needs to be restarted.

This value will apply to all new e-Work users. Existing users need to delete all cookies and files via Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer. Once the user then moves from one list to another (e.g. blank forms to To Do list), the new row number will be in effect.

In the 6.6.1 installation and later, the settings you enter are ignored as far as I can see. In addition, the settings you have previously entered get overwritten. This results in the date format getting reset to US format (Grrrr!) as well as everything else.

Given that it is usually inadvisable to allow users to set their own settings for things like currency and date formats, the only real option you have is to edit the JScript file on the server.

Would it be really simple to add a configuration utility to make these global settings? Given that settings can no longer be changed my going through the installation program again (as you could in v5) this would seem a glaring omission.
