e-Work Install Hangs at 'Applying environment changes'

Created: 09 Jun 2006

The information in this article applies to:

Product: e-Work
                                Version: 5.x 6.x

  • During an installation of e-Work, the installer permanently hangs at the following screen:

                                    Status: Applying environment changes

  • The installer for Metastorm e-Work versions 5.x and 6.x, but not later versions, requires a response from each running application when environment variables are changed. If an application does not respond, the installer will wait indefinitely.

  •                                 To resolve this, the following steps are recommended.
    1.                                 If this is a new installation of e-Work, use Add or Remove Programs to remove Metastorm e-Work Release xxx, if present.                                 Make sure all Metastorm folders are removed from Program Files. If this is an upgrade of an existing e-Work installation, start with #2.
    2.                                 Close all applications and windows.
    3.                                 Run the install again.
    4.                                 When the install reaches the point where it stops, close/exit all system tray applications.
    5. If the install does not continue, open the Services Manager and try to stop running services (NOT the Windows Installer service) one by one to see if the install continues.
    6. If the install is still hanging, open the Task Manager and try to end processes (NOT msiexec or idriver) one by one until the install continues.

Post an example, and we will have a much better idea what the problem is. In about 90% of posts, the problem is one of communication. Examples bridge that gap.
