Flow digger, a comprehensive, cross-functional tool with advanced capabilities to retrieve data from a Metastorm map, including actions, stages and roles into a user-friendly format for Business Analysts (BA) and Functional Analysts (FA).

The tool analyzes Metastorm processes and folders and interprets code and documents multiple components of a give procedure. The flow digger is also suitable for developers, allowing them to dig through code without opening the Metastorm Designer application. The developer can also debug scenarios using the tools interpreter module.

In brief this tool will allow you to (features):

  • Analyze Procedures
  • Analyze Maps
  • Analyze Stages
  • Analyze Actions and roles
  • View most stage, action and form code without opening designer
  • View & Search folders as well as folder data, and
  • Interpret/Substitute code variables with values automatically within Metastorm code modules/chunks for assisting in debugging.

The tool is also an efficient mechanism for documentation including:

  • Documenting all roles in a map
  • Documenting all selected actions
  • Documenting all selected stages(selecting a map, loads all stages causing us to document the whole map)
  • Individually document actions, roles, maps, stages on demand, and
  • Documenting a selected role.

This tool will support Metastorm Versions 7.6 or lower with SQL Server background and will be a great supplement to business/functional analysts as well as developers who had to analyze and debug procedures in day-to-day business environment.

For an analyst/reporting user trying to generate meaningful reports derived from Metastorm maps for Audits or general inquiries this could be a great addition. This tool is also useful for a quality assurance tester in determining the roles that can perform particular actions or verifying data.

Attached to this post are two sample reports/documents generated by flowdigger.

The first one explains a map from stage perspective. It lists all stages, the actions available at each stage, the forms and which roles can perform what actions at a given stage.

The second one explains a procedure from roles perspective. It lists all roles, while listing what each role can do at each stage, listing all actions that role can perform, mentioning whether that role has the folder in its todo list/watch list at that stage and other information.

These are just samples of documentation which can be generated from this tool, in addition to performing advanced procedure level analysis as well as folder level.

This tool works independent of metastorm designer, henceforth not limiting the licenses a company can have of metastorm.

A evaluation copy of this software can be requested by sending a private message on this forum, or emailing me at support@factslist.org. Thank you for looking.

Checkout opentext MBPM 9.2.1 Solution Reporting Tool.  I just ran the update for opentext MBPM 9.2.1.1 and grabbed the solution reporting as well, it seems to do a nice job.

It does look quite good. It should be, as they copied the idea from our Designer addin for version 7. It is a great shame they refuse to publish the API so we were unable to update this for version 9. Still, plagiarism is the most sincere form of flattery, I guess.

The only thing it's missing is a step by step sequence through the stages.  Or the solution i ran the report on is just too complicated.

And it doesn't appear to be multi-threaded so it takes quite the performance hit.
