2 UPDATED FEATURES 2.1 SR3 2.1.1 Password Obfuscation in the Administrative Tools The passwords for Project Connections are encrypted for security reasons by Metastorm BPM. When Project Connections are viewed from the Administrative Tools, the password parameter will be displayed as encrypted. This encryption will be applied to the following Connection types: • Database Connections • ODBC Database Connections • LDAP Connections • Web Service Connections For solution deployed prior to installing SR3, the password is not encrypted and displayed as plain text. To encrypt the password, open the solution, modify the connection (for example, add and remove a space in the Server Name field in the Define Connection tab of the connection), and redeploy the solution. 2.1.2 Handling of Code Generation Error The Metastorm BPM Designer uses background compilation in order to provide Intellisense and validation capabilities for expressions and scripts. When the code generation fails, a notification is displayed within the status bar of the Designer along with a tooltip. 2.1.3 Performance Improvements • Designer o General Component Management There is a 25% to 35% improvement in the response time while opening, closing, and navigating between different components of a Solution such as Forms, Form Segments, Processes, Sub-Processes, Visual Scripts, Business Objects, and Reports. o Solution Management There is a 30% to 50% improvement in opening Solutions containing 10 or more Projects and Libraries. • Deployment There is a significant performance improvement when validating large solutions during deployment, which is achieved by caching the validation rules. In addition to this, the fix for SR-11042010-0014 (which was included in 9.0.2.4) gives a ten-fold performance improvement when deploying large Solutions. • Expression Builder There is an option to show or hide the parameter list and help panes in the Expression Builder. When these options are hidden, there is no delay in editing large expressions.

Something I pointed out well over a year ago, especially as Metastorm where touting 'better security' due to this feature!Quote:

Definitely a time saverQuote:

Oh Yes! (and about time too, if I may say so) Quote:

Now, THAT will prevent the air going blue around my desk quite so often, I assure you!

Not too bad. Opening new components (of a type previously unopened) still takes a while, but is quicker. Initial loading still takes an age and a day. Collapsed expression builder pane is great, but Metastorm will have to put a note there saying it is there as it is invisible for newbies (D'oh!). [edit: oddly now seems open by default - not sure why it was closed before] Closing windows opened 'out of order' (ie go back in the list and open something new from there) still gets confused as to the window to show when closed (mainly if you have gone two deep from there). Painful, but you just get used to closing all windows, I guess. Toolbox still jumps around like a loon on amphetamines when switching between components that use it and those that do not. It is such a pain and I cannot find a way to make my panes 'stay' without jumping because of the damned thing. Changing captions on stages, actions, form fields and Visual Script activities no longer causes a teeth-clenching freeze for 5 to 10 seconds, which is great. Bus Obj tree no longer expanded by default Bus Obj (and I assume others) tree still selects the wrong one in the window if sorted at all. Toolbox still unsorts itself after use if sorted. Referenced Library tree still expanded by default. Libraries now seem to use the cache so do not have to connect to use properly (as you used to from 9.0.2 on). Correct component is selected when you open the Manage Variables dialog. Yay! At last! Admin & Report groups still name/caption instead of Caption/name, just to catch me off guard still. Moving between open windows is quicker, but not very much. Opening closed components is quicker, though. Having said that, memory is being chomped up freely, 600MB so far and still not actually done anything. The process 'shapes' and fonts now seem to go to the default as set if not overridden. Up 'till now you had to suffer the default of the last developer. That's it so far. I'm pleased, but not ecstatic. Now I hope to find that nothing is broken......

Nope. Each day I start the Designer up anew, the dialog is collapsed. No dramas for those who know, but I suspect every newbie using 9.0.3 for the first time will be asking where the parameters get entered. I'll link to this post for every Q on the forums, just to prove it.
