ProVision is a tool that has many different uses. Here, it is primarily used by our Business Analysts to map business processes. We are starting to get our business users to use it as well to map their processes and also we are looking to use it to map technical areas more such as database modelling and Enterprise Architecture.

It will take you a long time to find out everything that is in it!

As for training, this is not great, you would probably have to get in touch with Metastorm themselves to find out what they could do for you.

Hope that helps!

Dai

Have a look at Bill Aronson's books and one free white paper at

http://stores.lulu.com/bill_aronson

I think you can find more than you need to know from these, and without heavy training fees!

Anyone moving to an integrated modeling platform such as Metastorm Provision can find it a daunting task. Bill Aronson’s Metastorm ProVision 6 made easy is an innovative guide for both the novice and experienced modeler. It is a worthwhile addition to any modelers reference library.

Hi RK-

I just joined this forum today and saw your question.  To be honest, I was thinking there would be more "traffic" here related to Provision, but hopefully things will pick up at some point.

Re: Provision, as you've probably figured out by now, it's a very "different" kind of tool and one of the few I've run across where a having solid failiarity with other MS Windows-based programs buys you very little :)

To answer your question, Provision can be used to do a lot of things; ranging from nothing more than "flowcharting" (like Visio or Powerpoint) to creating business process scenarios and actual simulation modeling.  At the latter end of the spectrum, we've used it to simulate off-shoring of work, including the financial ROIs since you can load Provision with salary data, etc.  So, it can be a very powerful tool--not to mention also being complicated, unintuitive, troublesome and downright quirky at times.

A word to the wise: figure out how to setup a Shared Repository on a network drive, and be sure to use the "check-in, check-out" functionality.  All of this will save you a lot of tears in the end ;)

See you 'round the forum.....hope this helps!

Hi - I am researching the ProVision workflow modeler as a possible tool my work may purchase. I am looking for the pros and cons of this tool, plus pricing. Can anyone provide me with their experience using the tool? Is it worth the money? How about the training support?
