Many thanks for all of those who took the Online Metastorm BPM Training Survey. The results were as follows:

Over half of respondents had received training:

It seems that Advanced Training is the most desired. We are quite pleased with this, as we are the only provider of an Advanced Metastorm BPM Course!

A Hints and Tips subscription course is next in line, which we will address very shortly, online.

Most of the comments seem to indicate the need for Advanced and Integration courses.

It also seems that online training is the most wanted, which is probably especially true given the current recession:

The desired Topics seemed pretty even. It seems we have chosen a good range of topics:

Comments were also very interesting:
Quote:
All of the above are key items that I have researched and used thru the help of the support forums but were overlooked during my training session.
Quote:
These are all important topics when developing in metastorm BPM

To be able to use almost all of the tools mentioned greatly improves process designs and helps organizations to be more flexible in their thinking about processes.

Price was probably as expected. Cheaper is always attractive, although we think value should be more important. Several wanted it for free, but I'm afraid Santa was not available for comment:

As for the comments, I think the following are a good summary:
Quote:
It's a cost-benefit assessment for you & depends on the number of enrollments, but $500-$1000 seems OK. I would rather pay more for a good quality in-depth course with references, exercises and downloads that a multi-choice superficial course.
Quote:
Pricing tolerance will vary based on the number of people who have access to and permission to take the course. This is a wonder avenue for organizations like mine where training dollars are thin and needs are high.
Quote:
I chose the lower number because right now it is hard to get the CFO to sign off on training. But $500 is so low it's a no brainer for the educational return.
Quote:
It depends. Is it only a couple of presentations to read or are there any web-meetings where the participants can ask questions that can be answered by the presenter. The latter could have a higher price tag.

And my personal favourite:
Quote:
why do we need this to be available for 12 months when we have the forum for any questions after the course is done?

I may be stating the obvious here!

It looks from these results that people are looking for an on-line resource where they can ask questions and get answers quickly on a number of technical areas.

This resource must also be cheap and available to everyone.

In my mind this is what we have in the forum.... it is free and fully available and answers most questions in a reasonably short space of time.

It also looks like the advanced areas are where the majority of the need is concentrated. This tells me that the use of the product requires a level of competency well beyond that of the basic course offering.

I have worked on a number of Metastorm BPM projects and there have been different challenges in each of them. We all hit the same basic issues with grids, sso etc However there are issues associated with the manner of the implementation and the way the business wants to constrain the development.

As the product continues to develop we will all face these challenges and having a resource that keeps pace with the changes would be almost impossible with a course.

The forum deals with real world issues in a real environment with answers being provided by others that have experienced these issues in their own environments and resolved them. What better resource could there be?

These forums are indeed a wonderful thing.

However, the information contained therein is relativly unstructered and incomplete. Plus most posts are of the 'I have got so far and hit a problem' type. Someone may visit here (for example) when having a problem with a Rendezvous action but if someone else knows nothing at all about implimenting Sub-procedures then the answer will be useless to them.

The advantage of a training course is that it is (or at least should be) a complete and structured examination of a topic. Plus, Jerome has to find some way of getting some cash out of some of us from time to time otherwise his beer supply and (more importantly) forum posts might dry up.....

Of course we could always ask for a new forum area containing "A complete and exhaustive step-by-step guide to......" type posts. Is anyone up for writing them? Please? :-)

Rick.

I have to agree that good basic training in the application of the BPM product is the basis on which this would work.

The forum works as a good source of continued support in the more complex areas of BPM development but it cant cover everything in the level of detail a well delivered course would.

Each has its purpose. Both are important.

The purpose of this online survey is to collate information about people's training needs, especially about training in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). I hope that this information will then be viewed and used by providers of M&E training, who will then seek to meet the needs that have been described here. Supply might end up having a better fit with demand.

This survey form was designed to be used by those seeking training in M&E. If you complete this online survey you will get access to the collated results of the survey at the end of the survey form.

If you are a provider of M&E training and want to see the collated results please contact rick@mande.co.uk for a link to the results page, where you can view and analyse the collated data online, or download the data in Excel format.

Sorry, what online survey is that? Can you post a link to it here? I am sure many would be more than happy to participate. We would also love to see the results if you would care to post a link here.

It was a tad misleading, as your post seemed to refer to our survey. I assume this is because your post was an excerpt from another source, however.
