Required Fields Missing or Misnamed on External PDF Form

Created: 29 Aug 2005

The information in this article applies to product: e-Work 6.x

Issue

  • One of the following pop-up messages appears when trying to import or refresh an external PDF form in the Designer:

There was a warning whilst importing the external form. Submit button is missing. PDF Form will be available for display not editing.
    or
There was a warning whilst importing the external form. Cancel button is missing. PDF Form will be available for display not editing.
    or
There was a warning whilst importing the external form. FormDataTypes text field is missing. PDF Form will be available for display not editing.

If the form is used with a misnamed 'Submit' button, a user may receive an 'Export Form Data As' dialog box when clicking the 'Submit' button. If the form is used with a misnamed 'Cancel' button, nothing happens when the 'Cancel' button is clicked. If the form is used with a misnamed 'FormDataTypes' text field, a user may receive the message 'Object required' when trying to submit the form.

Resolution

  • Verify that the 'Submit' and 'Cancel' buttons and 'FormDataTypes' text field have been added to the form and are correctly named. See the Web Author's Guide for details.
  • NOTE: The names for the submit and cancel buttons are incorrect as listed in the e-Work 6.6.2 Web Author's Guide section 2.3.

The correct names are eSubmitButton and eCancelButton. Note the case as these are case-sensitive.
