Good Morning,

I need to start a process (folder) in MetaStorm when a mailbox recieves a mail.  This mail wil have a xml file attached with data for variables in the metastorm application.

Is it possible to start a new process from a .NET Windows Service and if possible, how do I do this?

Thanks

There are a number of third-party solutions such as Swift that do this. Have a search here and on the web.

My suggestion is to search here. Google may give you more, but I doubt it.

If you want anyone to fix if for you, and we definitely could, expect to pay, or you can buy product, yes. If you don't want help, don't bother asking for it.

I searched here... I searched google... What do you think I have been doing the 2 weeks waiting for replies? Are you telling me the only way to start a metastront process from outside metastorm is to buy another "metastorm"?

It's not another "metastorm", it's a pretty neat add-on which would give you the quickest results at $x price.  The only other way of accomplishing this would be to write something yourself which depending on your knowledge and search skills would also come at $x price and take much longer.  So realistically swift or another 3rd party product might be the way to go in terms of accomplishing this as fast as possible for the least amount of $$ spent.

But if you are looking to write something yourself here's a few thoughts/ideas...

I'm not sure how the mailbox integration part would work unless you can forward it to a service or link it to a system folder where the process you write can grab the file.  I know there is some java software that runs in a service to grab any xml files in a system folder at x time intervals.  It then processes that file into some sub-system.  I don't see why you couldn't try to modify one of those or just use it as a reference.

To start testing, try to figure out what metastorm creates when you click a blank form and submit it.  Grab all that information and see if you can have this process generate all that information including the next efolderID.

And instead of using a process, a timed event or scheduled task running on your operating system triggering a script might work as well.

Can I ask what email server software you are using?

I maintained an app written by somebody else once that was basically a windows service that monitored a mailbox for incoming mails and then fired a flag on a process / processes.

Cheap and cheerful but it would work.

PM me for more details if you need.

You could write a .NET service that writes the XMl to a staging table, then plops a record into the eraisedflag table directly. That would raise the flag to start the process, which would then get the data from the staging table.

But if you're asking Metastorm to receive and parse emails for you, that's pretty far out of scope.
