We've had a request to create an approval process in Metastorm using email voting buttons.  We're using Metastorm 9.1 and Outlook.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

Hi Edenmack,

just to clarify, the request is to send out emails  through a MBPM process and this emails should contain voting capabilities like user are used to use (or still do) in Outlook to gather feedback, right?

I assume the voting results should go back into the process, right? Where do you want to store them?

One solution we implemented as the Outlook MBPM integrationwas to difficult and time consuming for us:
  • Pure intranet usage
  • Generate HTML Email with voting Links (incl. voting request code)
  • Receipients for this email are stored in table, each email has its one unique voting request code stored
  • Links point to ASP.net page (stored on MBPM Server) which will handle voting result and update the record related to the vote with result data and set status set to voted
  • Result are analyzed in process
This approach was much easier for us than working with all the Exchange, Outlook Metastorm Integration things involved. Maybe you can check with your customer if a solution like the suggested above will be acceptable, too.

Best regards
Sascha

Yes -- I've done similar things in the past, and that's probably what I'll resort to this time around.  User specifically asked for Exchange voting buttons, but I agree that this appears to be a rat's nest :)
