Hi Doogal, no that was more of an aside - I already have google maps in place and working, though if anyone knows any free online mapping system that can reference down to individual property rather than just post code area,  that would appreciated.

Didn't have to use the Google maps API, just created the relevant html string and called the webpage using a URL extension on the text box for the variable, works fine.

I already had what is needed to win the desktop wars worked out years ago but never had the time or money to actually develop anything, IBM was heading in the right direction it just bailed out of the whole thing. If they would like to pay me a very hefty fee I'd be happy to show them where this software should be heading.

The Google Maps geocoding will work on addresses as well I think which may produce a more accurate result. We've also used the MapPoint web service in the past, I'm not sure if it's more accurate or not. But we did have to have an ASP.NET form for fine tuning the lat/long data we had stored in the database since it isn't accurate all the time.

A lot of topics raised in this thread, so a few responses ...
* There has been discussions about a limited beta, although not sure what the final decision is at the moment.
* I do know there was an earlier version of the new client that always showed the current user as Greg, obviously something that isn't going to be in the released version
* Unlike the previous designer which was all coded (I believe) by development, this is based on a purchased framework where the modeling environments etc are plugins. As a result you do get the zooming and alignment things you would expect for a decent forms generation package, and intellisence in the scripting. Eventually all of our modelling environments will be using this same base.
* You will actually be able to create C# code segments within the designer
* We are abstracting out the data access from the forms and processes with the business object layer. Potentially this way a traditional developer type person could generate some of the more advanced data integrations and the BPM developer could just use those through drag and drop onto forms for example. This would also make things a lot easier when working with customers that have the existing dataset outside of the Metastorm database. These will also help to enable detaching forms from maps, while using their own set of custom/disposable variables and not needing everything in a single map table (unless you want it there).

There is much more than this, but a few teasers ...
It is looking very nice, and it should make life a lot easier when working with MBPM.

Todd, your info looks quite nice, but...
C# looks nice, and intellisence, but is any possibility to run old processes on new platform without many many hours of development work?
There was training "Migration steps from version 7 to 9" on ME2009 in Baltimore, but it disappear :(

But that would not be a huge limitation, surely - we can just enforce the rule that all users are named Greg....

For anything out there the migration process "should" take care of bringing that into V9 with minimal, if any, effort. You would want to perform some testing/validation obviously to ensure all still working, but it shouldn't require new development.
We had some discussions earlier on regarding the potential of allowing you to migrate a process at a time, and not do all of them at once (thus allowing some v7 processes continue running as is until ready to upgrade them, but others on the server running under v9. This was put in the wish/request list, but what it will end up being I don't have that answer.

Sorry but I don't have the answer to that. I am just a lowly consultant who won't even be there this year ...

PS that's for V6/7 for V9 the problem is V9 at the moment ;)
