Best practice for kicking off process based on a SQL select statement

I want to start a process for each row returned in a select statement. The statement may contain up to 1000 records. I have a flag action to begin the process.

What is the optimal way to do this?

Drop Down Problem

I have a drop down that is not working correctly. It shows on the form as if it were disabled. I attached a snapshot that shows the problem drop down and the one under it that is working fine.

I have narrowed the problem down to being related to the variable that is assigned to it. If I assign a variable with a different name, it is displayed normally. However, I have gone as far as deleting the drop down form the form, deleting the custom variable, saving and publishing, and even going in to the DB and deleting the old column that went with the variable from the procedure table. I then re-create everything from scratch, but if I use the same variable name as what was originally used, it appears incorrectly again.

I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out what is causing this problem and how to get around it. I suppose I could just use a completely different variable name and that would solve the problem, but I'm sure to come up against this same thing in the future so I would like to know how to fix it without having to create a new variable every time.

eMail Connector: Unexpected exception

Hi & Happy New Year to all,

We are having an intermittent problem sending emails from Metastorm. An action in the map should send an email. Sometimes the action completes successfully but the email is not sent.

The Metastorm Administrator records that an 'Unexpected Exception' occurred.
The web server event log records "Unexpected exception occurred while trying to send SMTP message. Reason: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."

The email message and the attachment are not especially large (2.4Mb in a recent example) and larger attachments have been processed succesfully. I have monitored the server during the operation and there appears to be ample memory and disc space available.

Has anyone else come across this please?

My worry is that it fails silently at the user end and so the error is only caught if I notice the entry in the event logs.

Flag on System Stage?

I am trying to get a folder out of a system stage using a flag. The issue is we are doing something out of the box, and cloning a folder while its in the conditional action. We're calling the clone stored procedure ourselves. The Parent is moving down to the Alias Review Stage, while the Clone is stuck in the system stage. The conditional action is calling the Move Clone Flag at the end of the When Action Completed. The flag is being called, I see it pop up in the eraisedflag table.

Issues with 7.6 Installation on Vista

I am unsuccessfull in installing version 7.6 on vista. It seems like it is doing everything, until the end it just says it is rolling back...and shows a message that the installation is interrupted and it installed nothing.

a look at application log says nothing but the following message.

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Metastorm BPM Release 7.6. Product Version: 7.6.0.0. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603.

Any help ? Thank you for looking.

sending Mail with existing (multiple) Attachments

Hy

I want to send an email with one or more attachments which are already exists in my process. The reason for doing this is, that I have designed a process which collects a lot of information from our staff (this information can include pdf, word or jpegs) and at the end of the process there should be send an email with the option to attach some already existing attachments.
I just had had a look at the sendmail procedure, but there you have just the possibility to attach a new attachment. And the second issue ist, that there is no possibility to choose which attachment and how much attachments should be sent...

so if anyone has an idea please let me know

Forms Disappeared in Designer

I have a serious problem. I was working on a procedure and had published several times during the day. I closed the Designer to work on something else, but later returned to work on my procedure again. When I opened the Designer, all but one of my forms had disappeared from the Procedure Explorer. I launched the web app and confirmed that the forms are actually still being presented to the users, but they are not showing in the Designer. Since the forms are obviously in the database or they wouldn't be showing up in the browser, I did a retrieve. Same problem. I retrieved several more versions until I finally found one earlier in the day in which the forms showed up in the Designer's Procedure Explorer. I then published that version. I then closed the Designer and relaunched it to re-open my procedure. All the forms but one where gone again. I also had a co-worker try doing a retrieve on his computer, just in case there was some issue with my PC, but he had the same result.

I am at a loss as to what is causing this. It does not make any sense. I have searched the knowledge bases, BPM documentation, and forums on this site and on the Metastorm site, but have not found any reference to this kind of a problem. I found one post from someone that was having a problem with forms disappearing due to a role problem, but his problem was the forms not showing up in the browser. My problem is that they are missing from the Designer.

This is Christmas Eve here in the USA, so I won't be back to work for another 5 days, but I hope some one with an idea of what I can do might see this and give me some ideas I can try when I get back to work. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Create Clone from script?

Greetings, In the first action the user selects one or more options which are stored in a table along with the FolderID. This happens from an Add button on the first form. When the user selects submit it goes to a system stage where I want to read from that table and create a clone folder for each item they chose in the first action. I want these new children folders to go on to other stages but the parent to be archived.

I'm having trouble getting the child cloning to work. Currently I create them from a timed loopback action off of that first system stage but the timed action doesn't seem to fire but the first time. So I get my first child folder but no others.

Is it possible to create clones from a server side script that I could just run in the system stage and not worry about the timed action? If so how, can you please provide an example?

What am I doing wrong or is there a better way to do this?

SOAP Faults

Does Metastorm 7.5.1 have the ability to handle a SOAP fault from a webservice call? I have a web service that works fine most days, but occasionally it doesn't. It causes the folders to fail, but primarily because I don't seem to be able to capture the SOAP Fault from the call. Am I doing something wrong?

I used the Activator to activate the web service and create the dll.

Priority Colors in Alert list

Using v7.5 sp1 with IE 6

We conditionally set Priority on certain folders to 5. We have a request to set the text on these rows to green. I followed the instrucitons in WebAuthors Guide, changing these entries:

That works, however, I notice that if I select the folder, text color goes to black. Looking in the alerts.css, I saw an entry for priority 1 like this:

}

So I added one like it for priority 5

.selectedPriority5
{cursor: hand;
color: green;
background-color: #FFFFFF;
}

However, that is not working. Still reverting to black if i select the folder.

The Windows event log on our production server is plenty of this message, always with the same form.

I precise that the form is setup with a specific role, not "access".

Apparently it happens when the user navigate between forms tabs.

What is the relationship between BPM and technology

Having come across this discussion recently, my respose is;

In my experience, the essence of BPM is the ability to define an activity from a Business perspective, as it should be, and optionally to allow that to be 'translated' into a specification for automation.

This translation is the key, however. Describing a Business activity is not new. Describing an automated system is not new. Using the same 'language' to do so definitely is.

In the past, Business users would get an analyst to document an activity. This would inevitably (in my experience) be turned into a specification (assuming automation is the goal). This specification would be so technical that no Business stakeholder could understand it. There you had the communication breakdown, and so began the Business IT divide.

In my opinion, and in my experience, BPM and the associated 'language' employed to document processes can bridge that divide and give control of automated system to the business users, for better or for worse.

Having said that, the technology itself is not the enabler here. The 'language' (typically BPMN and similar standards) is the real tool.

Registry settings in the FreeFlow Administrator
